This sculpture animates according to its ambient temperature—blooming open on a hot day and bundling up when it’s cold outside—so the sculpture moves on its own throughout the course of a day & through the seasons, ever-changing in the background, going about its cycles as we do ours.
I imagine this sculpture participating in our daily rhythm. On your way to work, as the day first begins to warm, it too wakes up and begins to move. As you step out for lunch, you notice it has sprawled open, radiating in the midday sun. Then at the end of the day, in the cooler evening air, the sculpture stands tall and vibrant. Later, as you turn down, there it goes, also tucking in for the night. Likewise, it shows the passing of the year like trees changing through the seasons. It’s fun to imagine that first day it opens up after a cold winter.
